Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) User Guide
UNISA has introduced some information security enhancements to the student systems, recently announced here:

https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/myunisa/default/Announcements/Information-Security-Enhancement

Please note with specific reference to Mutli-Factor Authentication:

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that adds an extra layer of security to your account. It requires the user to verify their identity by providing two or more verification factors in order to gain access to university systems. In addition to your password, you will now use a second factor—such as a mobile app (Authenticator), text message, or phone call to confirm your identity. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access even if your password is compromised. Once your account is enabled with MFA, you will be prompted to set up your MFA the next time you log in to your university account.

How to Set Up MFA:

Setting up MFA is a quick and straightforward process.

Click this link for detailed instructions and step-by-step guidance on how to enable it:

We will also provide support through dedicated service desk resources for those who may need assistance.

We understand that changes like these may raise questions, and we are here to support you every step of the way. Our IT support team through SCSC will be available for any inquiries or assistance.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these necessary security measures. Your safety and the security of your academic journey are paramount to us.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Dear Unisa Students,

UNISA has made the following information security enhancements to the student systems:

Mandatory capturing of cell phone numbers
Capturing the cell phone number on the UNISA systems is mandatory. Students must note that the university will use a cell phone number entered into the system for student data provisioning and creating profiles.

Monthly password change
The students will be required to change their password monthly. Regarding the password complexity, the length should be at least sixteen characters and have special characters e.g, Emails@54180=myubo.

Multi-Factor Authentication
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that adds an extra layer of security to your account. It requires the user to verify their identity by providing two or more verification factors in order to gain access to university systems.
