BENEFIT 61: Selected benefits from Sheikh Jum'aan's lesson on Bukhari

Bukhari said [Sahih al-Bukhari, hadith 3109]:

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: "When the cup of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) got broken, he fixed it with a silver wire at the crack. (The subnarrator, `Asim said, "I saw the cup and drank from it."

BENEFIT 1:

In the chain we have 'ibn seereen' narrating from Anas radhiyallahu anhu.

Four of Seereen's children narrated from Anas radhiyallahu anhu; they are:

1. Muhammad ibn seereen
2. Anas ibn seereen
3. Hafsah bint seereen
4. Yahya ibn seereen

In this particular chain, the one narrating from Anas is Muhammad ibn seereen. We know this because:
1. Out of the four children of Seereen, Muhammad was the one with the most narrations from Anas radhiyallahu anhu.
2. The sub-narrator ('Asim) had only narrated from Muhammad.

BENEFIT 2:

After the passing of the Prophet ﷺ, this cup remained with Anas radhiyallahu anhu and others besides him.

Al-Qurtubi rahimahullah said: I read in some manuscripts of Bukhari's Saheeh that he said: I (Bukhari) saw the cup (of the Prophet ﷺ) and drank from it.

It's said that Bukhari purchased the cup for 800,000 Dirhams.

BENEFIT 3:

There's nothing which remains with us from the traces of the Prophet ﷺ in our time. If someone claims to have any traces of the Prophet ﷺ (i.e. Clothing, hair, utensils, etc.), then they are lying; because there's no way to prove that what they have is from the traces of the Prophet ﷺ.

Note: this last benefit was mentioned in a previous class

BENEFIT 4:

It is not permissible to eat or drink from utensils made of gold and silver. However, from this hadeeth an exception is given with regards to silver with two conditions: 1) There's a need to use it & 2) Only a small amount of it is used.
