Timurid emperor, an accomplished mathematician and one of the greatest astronomers in history, Ulugh Beg with Ali Qushji in an observatory in Samarkand. Ali Qushji was a student and co-worker of Ulugh Beg.
Ulugh Bey was the grandson of the legendary Central Asian conqueror, Amir Timur (known as Tamerlane in the West).
