Emergency imposed due to volcanic eruption in Iceland
A state of emergency has been declared after a volcano erupted in the southern part of Iceland. This is the fourth volcanic eruption in the 'Reykjanes Peninsula' of this European country since December last year. It is being described as the most powerful explosion ever.
Local media say lava has reached close to the nearby evacuated town of Grindavik. People present near Blue Lagoon, a favorite place of tourists, have also been evacuated to a safe place.
Lava and a huge plume of smoke are also coming out from the volcano. However, Iceland's airspace remains open to air travel.
