The Valley of the Kings was constructed in the ancient city of Thebes, known as Luxor today, and it contains over 60 tombs of Pharaohs from the New Kingdom period. Most of the tombs are located on the west bank of the Nile River and there are several famous pharaohs buried here including King Tutankhamun.
