All jokes aside, I actually do understand those who feel very differently about the Royal Family than myself. For example, I have a very dear friend who will be 93 this week. He's a blind veteran and fought all over the world for Queen and country. He is wonderfully patriotic and proud of his country (although very alarmed at the way things are heading) and the Royals symbolize something very precious from another time to him. So I would never attempt to disabuse him of his beliefs out of respect for him, his age and life experience. People are rapidly waking up to the reality of 'the system' but sometimes letting go of things we once believed in and still want to feel warm and nostalgic about can take a bit of time. But we CAN still feel proud to be British and cherish many of our uniquely English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish traditions, customs and folklore without needing to feel any kind of 'allegiance' (let alone swearing to it! ) to the epitome of an unjust, fraudulent and corrupt hierarchical system within our society.
