A little humour for want of a better word, for all you Resistance Kiwis this morning.

The 63rd Annual Conference of the New Zealand Association of Economists has just finished at AUT:

The usual bollocks about income inequality and climate change featured in a number of presentations. But what was “hilarious” and a sign of things to come for other government departments, was that the number of staff from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) was limited not by budget, but by, wait for it… the carbon dioxide emissions quota that the department had left!

Yep, that’s right. These ninnies have allocated a carbon quota to their department and actually waste our time and money to calculate the amount being used to attend various events.

The upshot of this idiocy, was that either two staff members could fly from Wellington to Auckland to attend, or four could attend if they drove together in one car but took two extra days to do it! Ultimately, two attended.

Perhaps they were running tight on their allowance because Drippy Chippy took an extra plane to visit Winnie the Pooh in China. Maybe Chippy and the hangers-on could have ridden pushbikes across Aussie to shave off some emissions - I’m sure no-one would have been any worse off if they had.

When will these clowns realise that the jig is up. Fewer and fewer people believe that we’re all going to be baked alive because Daisy the cow farted after breakfast. The only considerations when deciding whether a public servant should attend a conference is: a) whether it is useful for that staff member’s development, b) whether it’s beneficial to the country and c) the likely value versus cost to the taxpayer
