As an economist and policymaker, he played a crucial role in fiscal consolidation, tax reforms and energy policy formulation as Finance Secretary and Chairman of committees on fiscal reforms and petroleum pricing.
Oversaw economic liberalization in the 1990s, introducing VAT, dismantling the License Raj and carrying out divestment of PSUs.
