Story of Shravan Kumar
In the ancient land of India, there lived a young man named Shravan Kumar. His story is one that great love for parents and deep-rooted values of Indian culture.
Born to humble parents, Shravan Kumar grew up in a small village, where he was known for his unwavering dedication to his aging and visually impaired parents.
From a very young age, Shravan Kumar took on the role of a dutiful son. His parents had lost their sight, and he became their eyes and hands, guiding them through their daily activities. Despite their limitations, the family led a simple but content life, bound by a love that was unbreakable.
Shravan Kumar's devotion was most evident in his willingness to do anything for his parents. He would carry them on his shoulders during pilgrimages and provide for their every need. His love and care earned him respect from the entire village, setting an example of selfless service and compassion.
As time passed, news of Shravan Kumar's devotion spread far and wide. Shravan Kumar however remained busy with his service to his parents.
Tragedy struck when, in a twist of fate, King Dasharatha's arrow struck Shravan Kumar while he was drawing water from a river for his parents whom he was carrying to a pilgrimage. As he lay dying, Shravan Kumar requested the king to ensure that his parents received water. In his last moments, the devoted son forgave the king for the unfortunate accident.
When the king returned to Shravan Kumar's parents of their son's demise and explained how he mistook the sound of water drawn by Shravan with that of an animal drinking water. The heartbroken parents wept and cursed Dashrath to bear the same pain as they hadvborne. Both the parents then embraced death, unable to bear the loss of their beloved child.
Later when Shri Ram went to forest for fourteen years, Dashrath mourned the separation and died as Shravan's old parents did
The tale of Shravan Kumar became a legend that symbolized the deep-rooted values of family, duty, and sacrifice in Indian culture. His story is still shared across generations as a reminder of the importance of caring for one's parents and the incredible power of selfless love.
